Swinburne University of Technology, informally known simply as Swinburne, was founded in 1908. The university is a public university located in Melbourne, Victoria, and has six campuses in Victoria, and one in Malaysia. Swinburne’s main campus is located in the inner Melbourne suburb of Hawthorn.

The University of Adelaide, informally known as Adelaide Uni is a public university, situated in Adelaide, South Australia. Adelaide Uni was founded in 1874, after a £20,000 donation by copper miner and grazier, Walter Watson Hughes. It is the 3rd oldest university in Australia.

University Of Ballarat

The University of Ballarat, or as it is informally known, UB, is a university located in Ballarat, Victoria. The university is a dual sector university, providing both TAFE and university degree qualifications. University of Ballarat was founded by an Act of the Victorian Parliament in 1994, which gave the Ballarat College of Advanced Education official university status. It then subsequently merged with the Wimmera Institute of TAFE, and the Ballarat School of Mines and Industries (1870), to create a large dual sector university.

The University of Canberra, or as it is informally known, UC or Australian Capital University, is located in Canberra, Australian Capital Territory. The University of Canberra is home to 11,000 students supported by 800 staff, making it the second largest tertiary education institution in Canberra.

The University of New England, also known as UNE, is a public university located in Armidale, New South Wales. The University of New England was founded in 1938 as the New England University College, a branch of the University of Sydney. It became independent in 1954, and currently is home to 18,000 students. It is the first university in Australia to be established outside a capital city.

University Of New South Wales

University of New South Wales, or as it is known informally, UNSW, is a public university located in Kensington, 7km from the Sydney CBD. UNSW was founded in 1949 and has a student body of 42,360 students, including over 9,200 students who herald from over 130 different countries. This large student population is supported by 6,359 staff. UNSW offers students more than 300 undergraduate courses, and amazingly, 600 post graduate programs.

The University of Newcastle, or as it is known informally, UON, is a public university located in Newcastle, New South Wales. The University of Newcastle was established in 1965, and has a student body of approximately 30,300 students, including 3,500 international students who herald from over 80 countries. UON provides 84 undergraduate programs, and 96 postgraduate programs.

The University of Notre Dame Australia, informally known as UNDA is a private Roman Catholic University located in Freemantle, Western Australia. The university was established in 1989 through an Act of the Western Australian Parliament. The University of Notre Dame Australia opened its doors and began teaching in 1992.

University Of Queensland
Location:  Brisbane, Queensland
The University of Queensland, also known informally as UQ was founded in 1909, over 100 years ago, and is the oldest university in Queensland, and fifth in Australia. The university is a public university, and is located in Brisbane. The main campus, St Lucia, is located in the southwest of the Brisbane CBD.  The University of Queensland is a member of the prestigious Australian lobby group ‘Group of Eight’, and the Universitas 21, which is an international network of universities dedicated to research. The university is also colloquially known as a ‘sandstone’ university due to its age, and its membership in the G8.

University Of South Australia
Location:  Adelaide, South Australia
The University of South Australia, or as it is informally known UniSA, is a public university situation in South Australia. UniSA was established in 1991 when the South Australian Institute of Technology merged with the Colleges of Advanced Education. Although the current institution is relatively new, the University of South Australia can trace its history back to its antecedent institution, the South Australian School of Arts, which dates to 1856, making it one of the oldest art schools in Australia.

University Of Southern Queensland
Location:  Springfield, Queensland
The University of Southern Queensland, also known as USQ is located in Toowoomba, Queensland.  USQ was formed in 1967 under the name Queensland Institute of Technology. It has since undergone a number of name changes and rebranding, starting in 1971 when it was called Darling Downs Institute of Advanced Education, and then the University College of Southern Queensland in 1990, finally to adopt is current name, USQ, in 1992. The University of Southern Queensland has a large campus in Hervey Bay, which is to the north of Brisbane, and has recently, in 2006, formed a new campus in Springfield, one of the outer suburbs of Brisbane.

University Of Sunshine Coast
Location:  Sippy Downs, Queensland
The University of the Sunshine Coast, or as it is informally known USC, is a public university located in Queensland on the Sunshine Coast. Its main campus in Sunshine Coast is a 100 hectare flora and fauna reserve which adjoins the Mooloolah River National Park, 100km north of the Brisbane. USC was formed in 1996, initially operating as the Sunshine Coast University College until 1999 when it adopted its current name.

The University of Sydney, also known informally as USYD, was established in 1850, and is the oldest university in Australia. USYD has a student population of 45,182 students, supported by 5,921 staff, making the university the second largest in Australia, behind Monash University. The University of Sydney is a member of the prestigious Australian lobby group for research intensive universities, the ‘Group of Eight.’ The University of Sydney is also a member of the Academic Consortium 21, the Worldwide Universities Network (WNN), and the Association of Pacific Rim Universities (APRU).

University Of Tasmania
Location:  Hobart, Tasmania
The University of Tasmania, or as it is informally known, UTAS, was established on 1st January, 1890, and is located in Tasmania. UTAS, a public university was the fourth university to be formed in Australia during the 19th century. Due to its long history as a university, UTAS is considered to be a ‘sandstone’ university, and is also a member of the International Association of Commonwealth Universities (IACU).

University Of Technology, Sydney
Location:  Sydney, New South Wales
The University of Technology Sydney, also known as UTS, is located in Sydney, New South Wales. UTS has the distinction of being the only university with main campuses within the CBD of Sydney. The University of Technology Sydney was established in 1988, however the origins of its antecedent institution the Sydney Mechanics’ School of Arts, which is the oldest Mechanic’s Institute in Australia, can be traced back to the early 1870’s.

The University of Western Australia, informally known as UWA is a public university located in Western Australia. The university was founded in 1911 by the University of Western Australia Act, and is the oldest university in Western Australia. It is a member of the prestigious Australian lobby group ‘Group of Eight’, and due to its age and its membership in the G8, it is known colloquially as a sandstone university.

The University of Western Sydney, informally known as UWS, is located in Western Sydney, New South Wales. UWS has a student population of 35,061 students, supported by 1,192 academic staff which makes UWS the 3rd largest university by student enrolment in Sydney. UWS has a number of campuses across Sydney, which total 4050 hectares.

The University of Wollongong, informally known as UOW, was founded in 1951, and is a public university. The university is situated eighty kilometres south of Sydney in the coastal city of Wollongong. UOW was originally a division of the New South Wales University of Technology which was established in 1951 in Wollongong.

Victoria University
Location:  Footscray, Melbourne, Victoria

Victoria University, or as it is informally known VU, is a dual sector tertiary institution located in Melbourne, Victoria. VU provides both higher education and TAFE qualifications to students in over ten campuses. Victoria University was formed in 1990, but its predecessor institutions can trace their origins back to 1916. VU is one of eight Australian universities to offer both higher education, and TAFE and continuing education to students.
