Flinders University is a public university that is named after the navigator and explorer Matthew Flinders, who conducted a number of exploration and survey expeditions along the South Australian coastline in the early 19th century.

UniSA was established in 1991 when the South Australian Institute of Technology merged with the Colleges of Advanced Education.
