Leo B. Arts / B. Teaching Says : |
The community spirit of a small campus and the added value benefits of student unionism - I still study at university today and I think the loss of student unions as we knew them is a great shame.

Daniel B. Science (Business Information Systems/Information Technology) Says : |
I think Deakin has many strengths. I think that the location makes it an easy university to get too. The fact that there are numerous bus lines and a tram line directly outside of the campus makes it convenient for public transport. I think the smaller campus size (especially in comparison to Monash) makes it very easy to know where everything is, especially at first as uni can be a very daunting experience.
It also will take you a maximum of five minutes from one side of campus to the other, making getting around very easy. The induction program I found very helpful as well. They showed me where a majority of my units would be held which meant I did not ever get lost. I also think they have good student support services. I have never had a problem that I wasn't able to find help for.

The great people you meet and supportive staff. The staff are always able to answer any questions and if they don't have the answer immediatly, they will find it and get back to you.

Relaxed environment, lecturers are highly motivated, professional and very approachable. Great use of online resources including i-lectures which allow students who work during the day to maintain their income and catch up on lectures at night etc.

Deakin has a great atmosphere. It encourages socialising, as well as studying. If you attend some of the O-Week activities you're sure to start the year with some fun new friends.

Flexibility with delivery methods. A mix of on campus, off campus and online delivery modes meant that I was able to organise my studies around my work/family life.

Everything is fairly close together and modern, large amount of computer labs and wireless internet for between classes for study; most of the staff are fairly supportive and the numerous cafes on campus to keep me awake with coffee first thing in the morning :)
